How to Host a Postcard Writing Party 🖋️

Postcarding with others is one of the easiest ways to make a direct impact on voters while building community at the same time! It’s comfortable, social, and a great way to turn a few hours with friends into meaningful action. ✊

1. Choose your postcard program
Decide where you want your postcards and voter addresses to come from. There are many organizations and programs to choose from (ie. campaign specific, news boosting, GOTV, etc.), so explore your options and find one that feels like the right fit for you and your community. See some options below.

2. Order your postcards
Once you’ve chosen a program, order your postcards and any other materials you’ll need. Be sure to give yourself enough time for everything to arrive before your party.

3. Pick a place and invite your people
Host the party at your home, find a friend who is willing to host, or look for a community space that can accommodate your group. Think about your maximum capacity when deciding how many people to invite.

HINT: Personal invitations make a BIG difference!

*The best way to get people to come to your event is through personal outreach. A phone call, personal text, or DM is much more effective than simply posting an invitation and hoping people see it.

Reach out to the people you think would enjoy it and say, “I’m hosting a postcard-writing party and would love for you to join us!” That personal invitation really can make all the difference.

4. Make it social!
Consider making it a light potluck. Ask guests to bring a snack or drink to share, or simply provide some light refreshments. The goal is to create a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere where people can connect while taking action together.

5. Ask everyone to bring stamps
Stamps can add up quickly, so ask participants to bring their own stamps. You can also let people know in advance how many postcards they should plan to write.

6. Turn on the music and get writing!
Put on some music, grab your pen and a refreshment, and get to work! There’s something really energizing about sitting around a table with friends and neighbors knowing that your collective effort can make a difference.  Almost guaranteed, people will leave feeling uplifted and energized because action absorbs anxiety!
